Summary

Aliso Viejo Middle is a well-regarded public school serving about 800 students in grades 6 through 8 in the Capistrano Unified School District, consistently earning top ratings and performing well above state averages in English, Math, and Science.

The school stands out for its effective support of all students, achieving strong academic results even while serving a student population with a higher level of economic need than some neighboring schools like Ladera Ranch Middle. It performs particularly well for students from low-income families, those learning English, and students in special education, ranking in the 90th percentile or higher for these groups statewide. While its chronic absenteeism rate is better than the district and state averages, it is slightly higher than some local peers such as Fred Newhart Middle.

Within its own district, Aliso Viejo Middle is a solid performer, though schools like Ladera Ranch Middle and Don Juan Avila Middle have similar or slightly higher rankings. It significantly outperforms most middle schools in the neighboring Saddleback Valley Unified district. The school achieves these outcomes efficiently, with per-student spending lower than some comparison schools, demonstrating a successful model of equitable education for its diverse community.

Open Quote There are wonderful teachers, administration and staff at AVMS. It pains me to say that it’s unfortunate that there is some staff there that makes it so bad there that I would never recommend this school to anyone. AVMS has found away to get around sex education laws by hiding behind a teacher run school club that meets at lunch, the district supports this corrupt behavior. They hide behind the GSA label as if that makes it ok to teach children mature sexual subjects without parent’s permission. Absolutely the creepiest thing I have ever experienced in a school setting. Please don’t get a false sense of security that you are being notified regarding sex education that is required by the state, this is a different class. This school will HIDE inappropriate discussions they have with your kids, (the school has other lunchtime things in the works) you are being forewarned PLEASE take it seriously for the sake of your child Close Quote
