While it is a relatively small school compared to nearby public elementary schools in the Chico Unified district, Blue Oak Charter has struggled academically, earning a 2-3 star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years.

One key area of concern is Blue Oak Charter's high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 20.4% to 35.4% over the past few years, significantly higher than the nearby public schools at around 20.4%. The school's test scores on the Smarter Balanced Assessments and CAST Science exams are also generally lower than the state averages and the nearby public schools.
