Summary

Big Picture Educational Academy is a K-12 alternative school in Fresno, California, serving approximately 520 students within its own independent district and a community with significant economic need.

The school faces profound challenges, with academic proficiency in core subjects like English and math below 15%, a graduation rate that has fallen sharply to 31.4%, and an alarmingly high dropout rate of 68.6%. Chronic student absenteeism, while improving, remains over double the state average. These outcomes are significantly lower than those of many nearby alternative schools, such as Endeavor Charter and Sierra Charter, which maintain graduation rates above 90% with similar or lower per-student spending.

This performance places Big Picture among a cluster of struggling alternative schools in central Fresno, including Ambassador Phillip V. Sanchez II Public Charter, indicating potential area-wide difficulties in serving at-risk students. The extreme variation in results among local alternatives suggests that the school's specific educational model or supports may not be effectively meeting the needs of its high-need population, warranting close examination by families and the district.
