Summary

Love Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 498 students in the Alameda Unified school district, ranking in the top 20% of all California schools and showing strong, consistent improvement in recent years.

The school stands out for its solid academic performance while serving a student population with greater economic needs than many neighboring schools in Alameda; nearly half of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, a rate higher than at Franklin Elementary, Edison Elementary, or Frank Otis Elementary. Love Elementary's test scores in English, Math, and Science are all well above the state average, and the school has made exceptional progress in reducing chronic student absenteeism, cutting the rate by more than half since 2022 to now be below the district average.

When compared to schools across the bay in Oakland Unified, such as International Community Elementary, the performance gap is stark, highlighting the strength of the Alameda district overall. Within that high-achieving district, Love Elementary is a steady performer on a positive trajectory, effectively educating its diverse community and achieving these results with resource levels comparable to its Alameda peers.

Open Quote We've been at Haight for K + 1st and are excited to return for 2nd grade. The parents of HH are involved in the classroom and after school too. It's a 'small' school so there isn't the overwhelm that can come with a larger sprawling campus but most schools in Alameda are similarly small. We had Ms Morrison for Kinder and Ms Bader for 1st, both excellent and responsive special teachers! Close Quote
