Summary

Kavod Charter is a well-regarded K-8 public charter school serving 395 students in San Diego, consistently earning a 4-star rating and outperforming state averages in core subjects while operating with notable cost efficiency.

Academically, the school stands out in its area, with 57.66% of students proficient in English and 53.02% in Math, which is higher than the California averages. This is particularly notable as the school serves a population with a moderate level of economic need. A truly exceptional achievement is the school's 0.0% chronic absenteeism rate, which is far better than both the state average and all nearby schools, including High Technical Elementary Mesa at 9.0%. Furthermore, Kavod Charter achieves these results while spending significantly less per student ($13,593) than traditional San Diego Unified schools in the vicinity.

When compared to its closest neighbors, the school's performance is strong. For instance, Clairemont Canyons Academy, located just a short distance away, has a much higher percentage of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch and significantly lower English proficiency. The school's K-8 structure provides continuity through middle school, unlike many local elementary schools. It's important for parents to note that while the Kavod Charter District ranks highly, recent data shows concerning declines in performance rankings for Hispanic and low socioeconomic status students, indicating these groups may not be progressing at the same rate as others in the school.

Open Quote It takes a lot for me to write a school review because I’m a teacher and I have extremely high educational standards. Kavod has given us a whole lot of amazing learning experiences but I can sum it up by saying that they have cared for my children with respect, consideration and an openness to learning. Both of my children with IEPS have required specialized services and very specific supports. I found the teachers and staff members to be caring, smart, fun and excited about creating a community of respectful and inquisitive learners. No child was ignored, every child was met where they were enthusiastically and the staff worked extremely hard to address needs while simultaneously building on strengths. My kids have both done very well there and the emphasis on languages and culture has been a ton of fun. Projects were meaningful and I appreciated the organized communication and leadership from administration. I would have never imagined my children speaking all these languages so quickly but they have learned because Kavod makes it possible with their organized programming and the support of all team members. As a part of the parent community, I felt welcomed and cared for there as well. In a time where there is so much division, it’s a beautiful gift when we can gather, respect one another and learn from one another culturally. Kavod is a gem and I know that their best is yet to come. Don’t think, just enroll. Toda Raba, Kavod! Close Quote
