Summary

Discovery High is a small grades 9–12 school in Sacramento’s Natomas area, with 130 students in Natomas Unified. Its latest results show very low proficiency across all three tested subjects, while chronic absenteeism is exceptionally high. Most importantly, in 2025–2026, 82% of students were chronically absent, compared with 23% districtwide and 18% statewide.

Test results are far below district and state levels, and Discovery ranked last in ELA, math and science among seven nearby grades 9–12 schools with scores. Its proficiency was 17% in ELA, 4% in math and 4% in science, compared with 49%, 38% and 36% statewide, respectively. The three other Natomas Unified high schools—Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, Inderkum High and Natomas High—averaged 60% in ELA, 33% in math and 43% in science. ELA is Discovery’s comparatively strongest subject against the state and district, but it remains well behind those benchmarks. Its absenteeism is also higher than the highest reported nearby figure: Grant Union High’s 65%.

ELA results improved from 9% in 2022–2023 to 17% in 2025–2026, and math rose from 0% to 4%, while science slipped from 5% to 4%. Graduation increased from 75% to 89% over that period, though the latest dropout rate also rose to 11%. SchoolDigger ranks Discovery at the 11th percentile, with 1 star; its student-teacher ratio is relatively low at 13.1. In 2024–2025, 82% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, a measure to consider as context, not as an explanation for results. SchoolDigger’s English Language Learner Students ranking changed sharply: the school was at the 74th percentile in 2021–2022, versus the 8th percentile overall, but at the 2nd percentile in 2023–2024, versus 15th overall.
