Summary

Pauba Valley Elementary is a K-5 public school serving about 510 students in the Temecula Valley Unified School District, consistently earning above-average state ratings while navigating a significant increase in student economic need.

The school has notable academic strengths, particularly in mathematics where student proficiency significantly outpaces both the district and state averages, and it shows exceptional effectiveness in supporting its economically disadvantaged students. However, parents should be aware of areas the school is working to improve, including science proficiency and a recent uptick in chronic absenteeism, though this rate remains below the state average. An interesting point is the school's efficient use of resources, achieving strong results with mid-range per-student spending compared to nearby schools like Vail Elementary and Crowne Hill Elementary.

When compared to other local schools, Pauba Valley solidly outperforms Vail Elementary academically while serving a similar community, though it trails top performers like Abby Reinke Elementary and Red Hawk Elementary. The school faces a common district challenge with a drop in fifth-grade math scores, and it maintains performance despite demographic shifts, indicating resilient educational systems.

Open Quote Having previously lived in Virginia and Pennsylvania, I am very disappointed with this school.

Saying this school has a GATE program is a joke. There is no specialist, GIEPs, support system or even differentiated instruction. Instead, gifted students are encouraged to read during down time or complete work in a different book. Nobody would ever hand an ESL student a Spanish-English dictionary and call it a day. So I will never understand why this is tolerated.

My son is in a class of 31 fourth graders with no teacher's aid. The student teacher ratio is publicly listed at being 22.5:1. Thirty students is too big of a class at the high school level-it's a disgrace in the 4th grade.

The drop off and dismissal here is pandemonium. Instead of the orderly drop off and pick up systems most elementary schools adhere to parents drive like maniacs. Rules aren't enforced and 600 kids are just let loose at the bell. This problem is made worse by the lack of school buses.

I understand that this may be good school according to California standards but there is a reason California's school system ranks 39th in the nation. Close Quote
