Summary:

West Covina Unified has 15 schools—8 elementary, 3 middle and 4 high—serving students from elementary through high school in the West Covina area. In 2025–26, the 14 schools with reported results averaged 46% proficient in English language arts, 35% in math and 31% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. These are unweighted school averages. The clearest overall finding is that the schools’ average results were below the state in all three subjects, and the gaps had widened since the prior year.

Several schools stand out in same-grade comparisons. Mt. SAC Early College Academy at West Covina led high schools in grade 11 ELA and science, with 83% and 57% proficient—25 and 18 points above the state—while its 29% in math was 3 points below the state. Merced Elementary led its elementary peers in ELA and math in grades 3–5 and grade 5 science; in grade 5, its results were 73% ELA, 65% math and 49% science. At the other end, California Elementary scored 24%, 29% and 23% in those grade 5 subjects. Hollencrest Middle led middle schools in grades 7 and 8 ELA and math and grade 8 science. Coronado High (Continuation) was the grade 11 low across all three subjects, with 7% ELA, 4% math and 2% science.

School averages declined from 2024–25 to 2025–26 in all three subjects, while the gaps with the state widened by 2 points in ELA, 3 in math and 6 in science. Individual trends differ: Mt. SAC gained 14 points in ELA and 5 in science but fell 7 in math; Edgewood Middle improved in all three. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile for Merced moved from 87 to 88, while Cameron fell from 53 to 33 and California Elementary from 49 to 31. Student-teacher ratios range from 9.6 at Coronado to 29.3 at Merced. All schools report free/reduced lunch eligible as their low-income measure for 2024–25, ranging from 66% at Mt.
