Summary:
The five high schools in Tamalpais Union High include three conventional high schools serving grades 9–12, Tamiscal High (Alternative), and San Andreas High (Continuation), which serves grades 10–12. In 2025–2026, the unweighted average across the five schools was 70% in ELA, 49% in math, and 57% in science, above state rates of 49%, 38%, and 36%. The most important finding is the sharp divide between the other four schools, which averaged 83% in ELA, 62% in math, and 62% in science, and San Andreas, at 15%, 0%, and 35%.
The subject leaders differ: Tamiscal led ELA at 87%, Redwood High led math at 68%, and Tamalpais High led science at 65%. Tamiscal’s ELA score was 22 points above the other four schools’ average and 38 above the state; San Andreas was 68 points below the other-school average and 34 below the state. Redwood was 24 points above the other schools’ math average and 30 above the state, while San Andreas was 62 and 38 points below those benchmarks. In science, Tamalpais was 9 points above the other schools’ average and 29 above the state; San Andreas was 27 points below the other-school average and about 1 point below the state.
Results improved in 13 of 15 school-subject comparisons from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026. Average school gains were 11 points in ELA, 8 in math, and 12 in science, compared with state gains of about 0, 1, and 3 points. San Andreas was the exception in ELA and math, falling 2 and 6 points, though its science score rose 23 points. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 rankings put Redwood at the 96th percentile, Tamalpais and Tamiscal at the 95th, Archie Williams High at the 94th, and San Andreas at the 24th; since 2023–2024, Tamiscal rose 60 percentile points while San Andreas fell 23. Ratios range from 7.7 students per teacher at San Andreas to 19.3 at Redwood. The 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible measure ranged from 8% at Redwood to 20% at San Andreas; these figures are context, not explanations of school results.
