Summary:

The five schools in Tamalpais Union High include three conventional high schools serving grades 9–12, an alternative school serving grades 9–12, and a continuation school serving grades 10–12. In 2025–2026 11th-grade results, the four schools other than San Andreas High (Continuation) were all above California’s proficiency results in English language arts (ELA), math and science. The most important difference for families is the sharp contrast between those four schools and San Andreas, which had the lowest scores in all three subjects.

Subject leaders vary: Tamiscal High (Alternative) led ELA with 87%, about 4 percentage points ahead of Archie Williams High at 83%; Redwood High led math at 68%, 4 points above Tamalpais High. Tamalpais narrowly led science, 64.7% to Redwood’s 64.5%. San Andreas scored 15% in ELA, 0% in math and 29% in science, compared with California’s 57%, 32% and 38%, respectively. The other four schools averaged 83% in ELA, 62% in math and 63% in science.

All-Grades scores rose from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 in every subject at Redwood, Tamalpais, Archie Williams and Tamiscal; San Andreas improved in science by 23 points but fell 2 points in ELA and 6 in math. SchoolDigger’s rankings also show movement: Tamiscal rose from the 35th percentile to the 95th across those years, while San Andreas moved from the 47th to the 24th. The three conventional schools have similar student-teacher ratios—18.0 to 19.3—but their 11th-grade math scores ranged from 56% to 68%. For context, the reported free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–2025 were 8% at Redwood, 12% at Tamalpais, 10% at Archie Williams, 17% at Tamiscal and 20% at San Andreas; these figures describe school contexts, not the cause of score differences.
