Summary:
Santa Clara Unified has 19 elementary schools: 18 serving kindergarten through grade 5 and Don Callejon serving kindergarten through grade 8. In 2025–26, the 19-school averages were 58% in English language arts, 54% in math and 47% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%; the average school did best relative to the state in math, by 15 percentage points. The biggest takeaway for families is that results vary widely by school: the highest-to-lowest gap was about 60 percentage points in each subject.
Millikin led all three subjects, with 88% in ELA, 88% in math and 79% in science—about 32, 37 and 33 points above the average of the other 18 schools, respectively. Washington Open also scored strongly, at 79% in ELA, 78% in math and 73% in science. At the lower end, Scott Lane had the lowest ELA and math results, 28% and 25%, while George Mayne had the lowest science result, 19%. Don Callejon’s all-grades science score was 64%, but it includes grades 5 and 8; its grade 5 result was 82% and grade 8 result was 49%, so grade-level comparisons are more useful across different grade spans.
School averages rose from 2024–25 to 2025–26 by about 1 point in ELA, 2 in math and 3 in science, though school-by-school changes were mixed: Don Callejon gained 18 points in science, while George Mayne fell 15 points in that subject. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings show longer-term movement too: Abram Agnew and Kathryn Hughes each gained 14 percentile points from 2023–24 to 2025–26, while Bowers lost 16. Income measures offer context, not an explanation of results: in 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligibility was 4% at Millikin and 55% at Scott Lane; Ponderosa and C. W. Haman both reported 28%, yet their ELA results were 59% and 44%.
