Summary:
The nine elementary schools in Rincon Valley Union Elementary serve grades K–6, except Spring Lake Charter, which serves K–8; the latest schoolwide proficiency results are for 2025–26. As a group, the schools’ average was 48% in ELA, 41% in mathematics and 43% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%, respectively. The most important finding for families is how much results differ by school: reported scores span 70 points in ELA and 74 points in mathematics.
Austin Creek Elementary stands out across all three subjects, with 79% proficiency in ELA, 74% in mathematics and 66% in science—30, 36 and 30 points above state results. At the other end, Rincon Valley Partnership has the lowest reported ELA and mathematics scores, at 9% and 0%; its science result is unknown. Whited Elementary Charter has the lowest reported science score, 22%. Sequoia Elementary and Austin Creek also report low chronic absenteeism, at 4% and 2%, compared with 10% districtwide and 18% statewide.
Year-to-year averages among the eight schools with results in both years show science rising by 4 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, mathematics falling by 2 points, and ELA nearly flat, down less than a point. Individual schools moved in different directions: Village Elementary Charter’s science score rose 30 points, while Sequoia’s fell 10. SchoolDigger rankings also tell different stories: Madrone Elementary rose from the 47th to the 64th percentile, while Whited fell from the 52nd to the 41st. The schools’ free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–25 ranged from 16% at Austin Creek to 56% at Whited; these are useful context, not an explanation for score differences. Spring Lake’s K–8 span differs from the other schools, and Partnership’s science score is suppressed.
