Summary:

Orange Unified includes 39 schools—27 elementary, four middle, five high and three alternative—serving students from elementary grades through high school. In 2025–26, the average school scored about 54% in ELA, 44% in math and 44% in science, compared with state averages of 49%, 38% and 36%. But results ranged from 13% to 83% in ELA, 0% to 86% in math and 4% to 80% in science. Because all-grades scores combine different grade spans, same-grade comparisons are more useful when available. The main takeaway is that performance varies sharply from school to school, rather than being uniformly strong or weak across the district.

Several elementary schools stand out: Panorama Elementary led in ELA at 83%, Anaheim Hills Elementary led in math at 86%, and Crescent Elementary led in science at 80%—about 34, 47 and 44 points above the state, respectively. At the lower end, Fairhaven Elementary scored 31% in ELA and 20% in math, while Esplanade Elementary scored 16% in science. Among middle schools, El Rancho Charter led all three subjects; Portola Middle and Yorba Middle had lower results. Canyon High led comprehensive high schools, scoring 36 points higher in ELA, 31 higher in math and 29 higher in science than Orange High. Richland Continuation High scored lower still, but serves a different purpose and had 83% chronic absenteeism.

Recent changes are mixed: the average ELA score dipped by less than a point, math rose about a point, and science rose about 7 points—more than the state’s 3-point increase. Individual results varied: science rose 24 points at Panorama Elementary and 25 at Imperial Elementary, but fell 14 points at Anaheim Hills Elementary. SchoolDigger’s separate rankings put Crescent Elementary and Anaheim Hills Elementary at the 97th percentile among elementary schools, and El Rancho Charter at the 95th percentile among middle schools. Free/reduced lunch eligibility in 2024–25 ranged from 19% at Anaheim Hills to 95% at Esplanade; this is useful context, not an explanation for school results.
