Summary:
Six high schools serve Hacienda la Puente Unified: five serve grades 9–12, while Valley Community Day serves grades 7–12; the group includes regular, continuation, and community-day programs. In 2025–26, four regular high schools averaged 52% proficient in ELA, slightly above California’s 49%, but averaged 31% in math and 29% in science, below state rates of 38% and 36%. Valley Community Day’s ELA and math results are suppressed, and its science result was not reported. The clearest overall standout is Glen A. Wilson High, the only school above state proficiency in all three subjects.
Wilson led reported results with 74% proficient in ELA, 58% in math, and 48% in science—25, 19, and 12 percentage points above California, respectively. At the other end, Valley Alternative High (Continuation) had 6% in ELA, 2% in math, and 0% in science, all well below state rates; its continuation-school setting makes it a different kind of option from a regular high school. Among the regular schools, Los Altos High was second in ELA at 55%, but was below the state in math and science. La Puente High and William Workman High were close in ELA (39% and 40%), while Workman scored higher in math (26% vs. 13%) and science (24% vs. 15%).
Results shifted unevenly from 2024–25 to 2025–26: science improved at four of the five schools with reported scores, but the five-school average gap to the state widened by about 1 point. ELA and math averages also fell behind the state by more over the two years: their gaps widened from 5 to 7 points in ELA and from 11 to 13 points in math. SchoolDigger’s statewide rankings fell for all five schools with scores across this period, including Wilson from 91 to 88 and Valley Alternative from 12 to 2. Other measures do not follow a simple pattern: in 2024–25 Wilson had the highest student-teacher ratio among regular schools at 24.3 and the lowest reported free/reduced lunch eligible rate at 65%, while Valley Alternative had a ratio of 7.1 and an eligible rate of 91%; these figures are context, not explanations for test results.
