Middle Schools in Freshwater Elementary

Freshwater Elementary has one middle school, Freshwater Charter Middle, serving grades 7–8 and enrolling 51 students. In 2025–26, its proficiency was higher than the state’s in all three subjects: 64% in English language arts (ELA), 53% in math and 52% in science, compared with 49%, 38% and 36% statewide. It also exceeded the Freshwater Elementary district in each subject. Most importantly, the school’s results were above state results across ELA, math and science, with the largest advantage in science.

Because it is the only school listed, there is no meaningful top-versus-bottom comparison among local schools; it is both the area’s sole school and its sole standout. Compared with the state, its proficiency advantage was 15 percentage points in ELA, 15 in math and 16 in science. Its margins over the district were smaller: 4 points in ELA, 5 in math and 3 in science. Results also differed by grade: seventh graders had higher proficiency than eighth graders in ELA (77% versus 52%) and math (59% versus 48%). SchoolDigger ranks the school 473rd of 2,703 schools, in the 83rd percentile, and gives it four stars.

Math and science improved markedly from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while ELA changed little: the school’s results rose from 40% to 53% in math and from 32% to 52% in science, while ELA increased from 62% to 64%. SchoolDigger’s ranking also improved from 722nd of 2,761 schools in 2024–25 to 473rd, rising 9 percentile points; it had ranked 553rd and in the 80th percentile in 2023–24. Chronic absenteeism was 10% in 2025–26, below the state’s 18% but above the district’s 8%. The school’s student-teacher ratio was 25.5:1 in 2024–25, and 47% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year; California provides free meals to all students statewide, but the school’s reported measure remains its own free/reduced lunch eligible share.
