Freshwater Elementary

Freshwater has two schools serving 334 students across kindergarten through grade 8: Freshwater Elementary (grades K–6) and Freshwater Charter Middle (grades 7–8). The latest results show a broadly strong area: both schools are above state proficiency in English language arts (ELA), math and science, and the two-school averages are about 12, 11 and 14 percentage points above the state, respectively. The clearest overall strength is science, where the area’s average is about 50% proficient compared with 36% statewide.

Freshwater Charter Middle leads the latest all-grades results in every subject, with 64% proficient in ELA, 53% in math and 52% in science. Those results are 5, 7 and 5 percentage points higher, respectively, than Freshwater Elementary, which has the lower score in each subject but still exceeds the state in all three. The middle school’s lead varies by grade: its grade 7 results are 27 points above the state in ELA and 22 points above in math, while its grade 8 ELA result is 3 points above state. SchoolDigger gives the middle school an 83rd-percentile statewide rank and four stars, compared with the elementary school’s 72nd percentile and four stars.

Results moved in different directions between 2024–25 and 2025–26: Freshwater Charter Middle gained 2 points in ELA, 13 in math and 20 in science, while Freshwater Elementary fell 5, 3 and 8 points in those subjects. Relative to the state, the schools’ average advantage widened in math and science but narrowed in ELA. SchoolDigger’s percentiles have fluctuated: the elementary school went from 67 to 77 to 72, while the middle school went from 80 to 74 to 83. As context, both schools reported similar free/reduced lunch eligible shares for 2024–25—49% at the elementary school and 47% at the middle school—and student-teacher ratios of 26.9 and 25.5. Chronic absenteeism in 2025–26 was 8% and 10%, respectively, both below the 18% state rate; these measures are observations, not explanations for achievement. The schools serve different grade spans, so all-grades results are not direct same-grade comparisons.
