Summary:

Emery Secondary is the only high school in Emery Unified, serving grades 9–12; it enrolled 162 students in 2024–25. Its 2025–26 results vary sharply by subject: all-grade English language arts (ELA) proficiency was 50%, just above the state’s 49.3%, while math and science were well below state levels. The clearest concern for families is the large state gap in math and science: 17% proficiency in math versus 38% statewide, and 10% in science versus 36%.

There is no school-to-school top or bottom in this one-school area, but the school’s results present a mixed picture. Graduation was 95%, 7 percentage points above the state, and dropout was 5%, 3 points below; chronic absenteeism, however, was 36%, 18 points above the state and 13 points above the district. Grade 11 results were below the state in all three subjects: by 7 points in ELA, 15 in math, and 28 in science. The all-grade ELA result is therefore a relative strength, but it does not describe the grade 11 result or offset the larger math and science gaps.

Results improved toward the state in ELA and science from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but math moved slightly in the opposite direction. ELA rose from 37% to 50%, while its state gap shifted from 12 points below to 1 point above; science rose from 5% to 10%, narrowing its gap by 1 point. Math slipped slightly, and its gap widened by 2 points. SchoolDigger’s ranking also partly rebounded: 55th percentile and 3 stars in 2023–24, 27th percentile and 1 star in 2024–25, then 33rd percentile and 2 stars in 2025–26 (rank 1,434 of 2,137). For context, the school’s 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 11.6, and 61% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that school year.
