Emery Unified

The two schools in Anna Yates Elementary and Emery Secondary serve students in grades K–8 and 9–12, respectively, with 590 students combined. Their 2025–26 results show ELA as the stronger subject overall: the average across the two schools was 41% proficient, compared with 22% in math and 16% in science. The clearest area of concern across the schools is science, where their average was 20 points below the statewide rate.

The schools’ reported results differ by subject: Emery Secondary led in all-grade ELA at 50%, about 1 point above the state rate and 17 points above Anna Yates at 33%. Anna Yates led in math, 28% to 17%, and science, 22% to 10%; both schools were below state rates in those subjects. Anna Yates also had a bright spot in 4th-grade math, at 49%, 6 points above the state. Emery reported a 95% graduation rate, 7 points above the state, but chronic absenteeism was 36%, 18 points above the state. These are all-grade comparisons between schools serving different grade spans, not same-grade comparisons.

Recent results are mixed rather than showing improvement across the board: the equal-school average gap to the state narrowed by 3 points in ELA and 1 point in math from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but widened by 1 point in science. SchoolDigger rates Anna Yates at the 30th percentile with 1 star and Emery Secondary at the 33rd percentile with 2 stars. In 2024–25, Anna Yates reported an 18.2 student-teacher ratio versus 11.6 at Emery; its free/reduced lunch eligible measure was 71% compared with 61% at Emery. These figures offer context, not an explanation for the schools’ results.
