Summary:

The 13 schools in El Rancho Unified include eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, serving students from elementary through high school; one high school is a continuation school. Elementary schools average 44% proficiency in English language arts (ELA), 36% in math, and 33% in science, while middle schools average 39%, 25%, and 23%, respectively. The most important takeaway is that results vary substantially among schools serving similar grade levels, so district averages can hide meaningful differences for families.

Among elementary schools, Valencia Academy of the Arts leads in ELA at 57%, while Magee Academy of Arts & Sciences leads in math at 51% and science at 48%; South Ranchito Dual Language Academy has the lowest elementary results in all three subjects, at 28% in ELA, 26% in math, and 21% in science. STEAM Academy @ Burke leads middle schools with 53% in ELA, 35% in math, and 30% in science—27, 19, and 11 points above North Park Academy of the Arts, respectively. El Rancho High leads Ruben Salazar Continuation by 35 points in ELA, 30 in math, and 24 in science; the comparison includes a continuation school. El Rancho High also has a 97% graduation rate, compared with 75% at Ruben Salazar.

Across the 13 schools, average proficiency rose 3 points in ELA and 4 in science from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while math increased by less than 1 point; individual schools had mixed patterns. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile rankings also moved in different directions: Magee rose 17 points and Durfee rose 16, while El Rancho High fell 15. The free/reduced lunch eligible measure for 2024–2025 ranged from 78% to 85% among elementary schools; Magee and Valencia were near 82%, while South Ranchito was 85%, an observation that does not explain their different results. Group averages are unweighted, and Ruben Salazar’s continuation-school status is important context when interpreting broad comparisons.
