Five schools serve 1,461 students in Corning Union Elementary, with grade spans from K–5 or K–6 up to K–8. Four schools have usable 2025–2026 test results; Columbia Academy’s scores are suppressed. Across the schools with results, every subject score is below the state figure: the top school results are 32% in ELA, 26% in math, and 23% in science, compared with 49%, 38%, and 36% statewide. The most important takeaway is that even the strongest reported school result remains well below the state benchmark.
West Street Elementary leads in ELA at 32%, 4 percentage points above the next-highest school, Rancho Tehama Elementary, at 28%; Olive View Elementary is lowest at 23%. Woodson Elementary leads in math at 26% and science at 23%. Rancho Tehama is lowest in math at 13%, while Olive View is lowest in science at 8%; Woodson’s advantages over those schools are 12 points in math and 15 in science. These differences show that strengths vary by subject, while the top school in each subject still trails the state.
Recent changes are mixed: the reporting-school ELA average rose 4 points and narrowed its state gap by 3 points, while math fell 2 points and its gap widened by 3; science rose 2 points, but its gap widened by 2. At school level, Woodson’s science score rose 9 points, while Rancho Tehama’s ELA score rose 13 points even as its math score fell 5. SchoolDigger rankings also moved in different directions from 2023–2024 to 2025–2026: Rancho Tehama rose from the 2nd to the 10th percentile and Woodson from the 17th to the 23rd, while Olive View and West Street fell 6 and 4 points, respectively. In 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 88%–90% at the four schools with current comparable figures. Woodson’s student–teacher ratio was 22.0, compared with 23.1 at West Street and 23.5 at Rancho Tehama; these figures provide context, not an explanation for score differences.
