Summary:

The four schools in Castaic Union serve kindergarten through grade 8 and enroll 1,914 students across three K–6 elementary schools and one grades 7–8 middle school. In 2025–2026, their average proficiency was above the state in all-grade ELA, math, and science—by about 7, 8, and 2 percentage points, respectively. But those averages hide a clear divide: Live Oak Elementary was below the state in all three subjects, while the other schools were above it in most measures.

The strongest results vary by subject: Northlake Hills Elementary led science at 48%, 2 points ahead of Castaic Middle and 12 points above the state. Castaic Elementary led math at 58%, 4 points above Northlake Hills and 20 points above the state. Castaic Middle led ELA at 63%, 2 points above Castaic Elementary and 14 above the state. Live Oak was lowest in every all-grade subject: 41% in ELA, 36% in math, and 21% in science—8, 3, and 15 points below the state. Grade-level results add nuance: Live Oak’s grade 3 math was 57%, 10 points above the state, while Castaic Middle’s grade 7 and 8 math each edged above their grade-level state results.

From 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, the schools’ average ELA and math results dipped slightly, while science rose by 3 points; the state also improved, so the schools’ average advantage narrowed in all three subjects. SchoolDigger ranks Castaic Elementary at the 79th percentile, Northlake Hills at 78th, Castaic Middle at 74th, and Live Oak at 45th; the district is at the 76th percentile with four stars. In 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios ranged from 22.7 at Castaic Middle to 29.7 at Castaic Elementary, while the free/reduced lunch eligible measure ranged from 33% at Castaic Elementary to 59% at Northlake Hills. These are useful context figures, but they do not sort schools into a simple performance pattern.
