Summary:
Seven schools serve Buena Park Elementary: five elementary schools for kindergarten through grade 5 and two middle schools for grades 6–8. In 2025–2026, elementary schools averaged 43% in ELA, 41% in math and 30% in science, compared with state rates of 49%, 38% and 36%. Middle schools averaged 44% in ELA, 32% in math and 31% in science, below the state in all three. The most important finding is how sharply results differ from one school to another, rather than a consistent pattern across the area.
Charles G. Emery Elementary leads the elementary schools in every subject, with 73% proficiency in ELA, 71% in math and 52% in science. It is ahead of the other four elementary schools’ averages by 37 points in ELA, 37 in math and 27 in science. At the other end, James A. Whitaker Elementary has the lowest elementary results: 24% in ELA, 21% in math and 17% in science. Among middle schools, Gordon H. Beatty Middle leads with 54% in ELA, 42% in math and 44% in science; Buena Park Middle trails at 34%, 21% and 18%. Arthur F. Corey Elementary is the next-strongest elementary school in ELA and math, at 51% and 48%.
Across the two test years, the seven-school average rose by 3 points in ELA, 1 in math and 4 in science, though individual schools had mixed results: Emery gained 10 points in ELA and 6 in math but fell 3 in science; Mabel L. Pendleton Elementary gained 16 points in science. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 rankings place Emery at the 89th percentile among California elementary schools and Beatty at the 71st percentile; Whitaker is at the 12th percentile and Buena Park Middle at the 27th. The elementary schools report free/reduced lunch eligible figures for sy 2024–2025, ranging from 55% at Emery to 94% at Carl E. Gilbert Elementary; these figures are context, not an explanation for results. Chronic absenteeism also varies: Emery reports 5%, compared with 21% at Pendleton.
