Summary:
Redding has nine high schools enrolling 4,266 students, from small continuation and youth-focused programs to comprehensive and independent-study schools, with some serving middle as well as high-school grades. In 2025–2026, five schools reported all-grades results across English, math and science, and their results varied widely: the gaps between highest and lowest were 55 percentage points in English, 36 in math and 40 in science. The most important finding is that a citywide average would hide a sharp divide, especially between Pioneer Continuation High and the highest-scoring schools.
Shasta Collegiate Academy had the highest current English result at about 72%, nearly tied with Shasta High at about 72%; Enterprise High led math at 42%, and Shasta High led science at 49%. By contrast, Pioneer scored 18% in English, 6% in math and 9% in science—32, 32 and 27 points below state results, respectively. The strongest earlier results belonged to University Preparatory: in 2024–2025 it scored 78% in English, 57% in math and 59% in science, exceeding state results by 30, 19 and 26 points.
Results improved in several places, but not across the board: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, Enterprise made the largest gains among schools with results in both years—22 points in English, 10 in math and 13 in science. Shasta Collegiate fell 6, 9 and 2 points in those subjects, while Shasta High gained in English and science but fell 10 points in math. SchoolDigger ranked Shasta High in the 82nd percentile, Enterprise in the 79th and Shasta Collegiate in the 77th for 2025–2026. As context, all nine schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible for 2024–2025; the shares ranged from 32% at University Preparatory to 88% at Tri Mountain Academy. Student-teacher ratios ranged from 8.3 to 28.3, but neither measure alone guarantees stronger results.
