Summary

University Preparatory is a top-ranked public charter school serving 1,009 students in grades 6-12 in Redding, CA, consistently achieving elite academic results that place it among the best schools in the state.

The school's performance significantly outpaces other local high schools. For example, in English Language Arts, 78.44% of University Preparatory students are proficient, compared to 66.01% at Shasta High and 45.64% at Enterprise High. It also boasts a near-perfect 99.2% graduation rate and an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 3.1%, far better than the 25.2% rate at Enterprise High. Remarkably, the school achieves these superior outcomes while spending less per student ($12,257) than neighboring schools like Central Valley High ($20,404).

This excellence is consistent across all student groups and grade levels, with 11th graders showing particularly strong college readiness. The success is supported by the high-performing University Preparatory District. While other local charter schools like Shasta Charter Academy perform well, University Preparatory's specific model stands out for its effective combination of high engagement, rigorous academics, and equitable support for all students.
