Summary:
Duarte has seven schools: three elementary schools, three high schools and one alternative school, with grade spans ranging from early elementary through high school. Results vary substantially from school to school, and the reported years do not line up for every school. The most important finding is the wide gap in all-grades proficiency: in 2024–2025, schools ranged from 25% to 87% in ELA, from 0% to 55% in math and from 13% to 65% in science.
California School of the Arts - San Gabriel Valley led 2024–2025 ELA and science, with 87% and 65% proficient. In 2025–2026, Valley View Academy of Technical and Creative Learning (Tk-6) led all three reported subjects, scoring 63% in ELA, 50% in math and 51% in science—14, 12 and 15 percentage points above state results. At the lower end, Mt. Olive Innovation and Technology High had 4% ELA and 7% math proficiency in 2025–2026; Opportunities for Learning - Duarte had the lowest reported science result in 2024–2025, at 13%. An exception to its low all-grades ELA score, Opportunities for Learning’s 11th-grade ELA result was just above the state figure: 57.1% versus 57.0%.
Across Duarte High, Maxwell Academy (Pk-8), Beardslee Dual Language Immersion Academy (Pk-8) and Valley View, the average rose 2 percentage points in ELA over the two years, while math rose less than 1 point and science fell 1 point. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking rose from 33 to 53 for Beardslee, but fell from 18 to 6 for Mt. Olive; rankings are not test-score changes. For context, Valley View’s free/reduced lunch eligible share was 61% in school year 2024–2025, compared with 74% at Maxwell and 84% at Beardslee. Mt. Olive also pairs very low test results with 78% chronic absenteeism, yet its graduation rate was 95%, above the state’s 88%.
