Summary:

Duarte Unified includes six schools—four elementary schools and two high schools—serving transitional kindergarten or preschool through grade 12, with no stand-alone middle school. The latest results show a wide spread: the equal-weighted school averages are 44% in English language arts (ELA), 32% in mathematics and 34% in science, compared with state results of 49%, 38% and 36%. The most important finding is that outcomes differ sharply from school to school, so the district averages hide very different experiences.

Valley View Academy of Technical and Creative Learning is the clearest standout: it leads all six schools in ELA (63%), mathematics (50%) and science (51%), beating state results by 14, 12 and 15 percentage points. Duarte High is next in all-grades ELA at 53%, while Mt. Olive Innovation and Technology High has the lowest reported ELA and mathematics results, at 4% and 7%; its science score is not reported. Among elementary schools, Beardslee Dual Language Immersion Academy has the lowest all-grades ELA and science, but its grade 4 mathematics result is 59%, 17 points above state. These all-grades comparisons are less direct because schools serve different grade spans.

Recent changes are mixed: the equal-weighted ELA average fell 2 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while mathematics rose 2 points; science fell 2 points among the five schools with results in both years. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 ranking places Valley View at the 77th percentile and Mt. Olive at the 6th; Beardslee rose from the 33rd to the 53rd percentile over the three ranking years. Context also varies: for 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 61% at Valley View, 84% at Beardslee and 87% at Mt. Olive. The two high schools differ in size and staffing ratios—Mt. Olive has 54 students and a 11.7 student-teacher ratio, versus 756 students and 20.4 at Duarte High—yet Duarte’s reported graduation rate is 98% and Mt. Olive’s is 95%. Mt. Olive also reports 78% chronic absenteeism, compared with 12% at Duarte.
