Summary:

ZIP code 85203 has nine listed schools: five elementary schools, one junior high, one high school and two alternative schools, serving different grade spans from elementary through high school. In 2025–26, the unweighted average among schools with reported results was 29% in ELA and 25% in math, below Arizona’s 41% and 33%. The most important finding for families is the wide gap between schools: reported all-grades scores span 52 percentage points in ELA and 48 points in math.

MacArthur Elementary and Montessori Education Centre Charter School – North Campus are the clearest academic standouts, though each leads in a different subject. MacArthur has 54% ELA and 53% math, including math 20 points above the state; Montessori leads in ELA at 59%, 18 points above the state, and has 43% math. At the other end, Virtual Preparation Academy of Arizona has the lowest reported ELA result, 7%, while Kino Junior High has the lowest reported math result, 5%; Kino is also 21 points below the state in ELA. Among conventional elementary schools, Edison reports 22% ELA and 12% math, versus MacArthur’s 54% and 53%.

SchoolDigger rankings also separate these schools, but their histories do not show a consistent upward trend: MacArthur moved from the 73rd to the 71st statewide percentile from 2023–24 to 2025–26, while Edison fell from the 16th to the 4th and Michael T. Hughes Elementary from the 24th to the 19th; Kino rose slightly, from the 2nd to the 3rd. Ratios do not map simply to results: MacArthur’s is 18.1 students per teacher and Montessori’s is 11.2, while Learning Foundation has a 9.9 ratio and results of 21% ELA and 26% math. The high school, Academy with Community Partners, reports a 56% graduation rate versus 80% statewide and a 13% dropout rate versus 5%; its test results are suppressed, and free/reduced-lunch figures are unavailable.
