Schools in ZIP code 85020 include 11 schools: eight elementary schools, one middle school and two high schools, serving a range of grade spans from early grades through high school. Across the area, the average All Grades proficiency is about 41% in English language arts (ELA), close to the 41% state figure, and 37% in math, above the 33% state figure. The most important finding is that these averages conceal a wide divide between schools: reported results span 64 percentage points in ELA and 55 points in math.

Madison Richard Simis School and Madison Heights Elementary School stand out at the top, though neither leads in both subjects. Simis has the highest ELA result, 79%—10 points above Heights and 38 points above the state—while Heights leads in math at 70%, 2 points above Simis and 37 points above the state. At the other end, Colegio Petite Arizona has the lowest reported ELA result, 15%, 26 points below the state; Sunnyslope Elementary School has the lowest reported math result, also 15%, 18 points below the state. Montessori Day Public Schools Chartered - Mountainside is a science standout, with 63% proficient in fifth grade versus 34% statewide. SchoolDigger ranks Simis and Heights in the 95th and 91st statewide percentiles, respectively.

SchoolDigger’s ranking histories show mixed school-by-school movement, not a shared trend: from 2023–24 to 2025–26, Mission Heights Preparatory High School rose 15 percentile points and Sunnyslope rose 12, while Desert View Elementary School fell 18. Similar grade spans can help with comparisons: the two high schools both exceed state results in 11th-grade ELA and math, but fall below the state in science. Ratios and enrollment do not neatly predict results: Mountainside and Sunnyslope have similar student-teacher ratios, 17.7 and 18.2, but their All Grades ELA results are 56% and 22%, respectively. Because grade spans differ, South Pointe’s math result is suppressed, and free/reduced-lunch figures are blank, these comparisons do not provide a complete like-for-like picture.
