Summary

Paseo Hills School is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the Deer Valley Unified District in Phoenix, Arizona, with 772 students. While the school is rated 4 out of 5 stars by SchoolDigger for its district, it faces significant challenges in terms of academic performance, dropout rates, and serving certain student subgroups effectively.

Paseo Hills School consistently underperforms compared to the Deer Valley Unified District and the state of Arizona in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, only 20% of 3rd graders at Paseo Hills were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 49% in the district and 36% statewide. The school has also seen a steady increase in dropout rates over the past 5 years, reaching 6.1% in 2022-2023, which is significantly higher than the district and state averages. Additionally, Paseo Hills School struggles to serve certain student subgroups effectively, with its rankings for White, Multi-racial, and Special Education students all in the bottom quartile of Arizona elementary schools.

Interestingly, Paseo Hills School underperforms compared to other Deer Valley Unified District schools in the area, such as Union Park School and Stetson Hills School, which consistently rank in the top quartile of Arizona elementary schools. However, the school does rank in the top 5% of Arizona elementary schools for its performance with homeless students, suggesting it may have effective support systems in place for this vulnerable population. Despite these challenges, Paseo Hills School's per-student spending has decreased from $8,162 in 2018-2019 to $6,887 in 2021-2022, which may be contributing to its academic struggles.

Open Quote Poor leadership.. teachers regularly express distaste in their careers to the students, taking away from their educational experience, as my child and friends are always making please don't quit on us posters for their disgruntled teachers. Just nauseating to deal with this school. Close Quote

Open Quote My son has been at Paseo for 5 years. This year I was told (by his teacher) there is no after school help and no tutoring. If your child falls behind and the teacher with 29 other students, cannot get to him/her, it will be up to the parent to teach the child. The quality of Teaching is up to the Parent, not the Teacher. The dont have Homework now, it is called "Practice Work". They dont receive a grade on Practice work, but if they need to re-take a test, they have to show their Practice work. I am hoping to move my son to a Charter School very soon. Close Quote
