Summary

Skyline High School is a public high school in Mesa, Arizona, serving grades 9–12 with 1,995 students. Its latest proficiency results are below state and district levels in English language arts (ELA), math, and science, while its graduation rate is higher. The most important academic concern is math: just 15% of students were proficient, 18 percentage points below the state and 16 below Mesa Unified District.

Graduation is a relative strength: 87% of Skyline students graduated in 2024–25, compared with 85% in the district and 80% statewide. In nearby comparisons, however, Skyline’s latest ELA and math results were below those of Imagine Prep Superstition, Apache Junction High School, and Desert Ridge High. Their average proficiency was 29% in math and 39% in ELA, putting Skyline 14 and 11 points lower, respectively. Science was also weak: Skyline’s 10% proficiency was below the district’s 13% and the state’s 19%, as well as all three nearby schools with reported results. Skyline’s graduation rate, meanwhile, was below the higher reported rates at Apache Junction and Desert Ridge.

Results show some contrasting trends. Science proficiency rose from 17% to 20%, then fell to 10% over three years; graduation increased from 82% in 2020–21 to 87% in 2024–25, despite a dip in between. SchoolDigger rates Skyline at 1 star and the 27th statewide percentile, down 33 percentile points from 2020–21, though up 5 points from the previous year. Its 2024–25 student–teacher ratio was 17.8, within the nearby range of 4.9–21, and its reported free/reduced-lunch rate was 52% in 2022–23. SchoolDigger’s English learner ranking was a relative bright spot: the group ranked at the 91st and 87th percentiles in 2020–21 and 2021–22, while the school overall ranked at the 60th and 54th percentiles. By contrast, the special education ranking fell from the 74th percentile in 2020–21 to the 13th in 2022–23. These group rankings are relative measures, not results for individual students.

My brother and sister go to this school. Both have had problems. My brother is a special needs student who for the first three quarters of his freshmen year had a an aide who was unable to change his diaper. There were days when he would come home and not a single new diaper would have been utilized from his diaper bag. Needless to say he got sores on his butt and had to go to a surgeon. During this process the superindent discovered that the aides in the special needs classroom did not know how to properly lift him out of his wheelchair, so in the third quarter they finally had a training. My mom still does not have an up-to-date IEP that was made in December. Needless to say something is wrong. Now they are saying that my mom, who is a teacher, physically abuses my brother and causes sores on his knuckles, on his primary hand that he utilizes to wheel himself. Also the hand that hits lots of walls and that he chews on when he gets stressed. I think this is definitely a situation that I will need to take to the news as it definitely seems like they are trying to get vengeance for us pointing out their flaws. If anyone has any student with special needs I would think twice before sending them to this school. Close Quote
