As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My first year teaching in middle school at Candeo North Scottsdale was fantastic. The Head of School was on top of things and the problem behaviors were addressed quickly and appropriately. Those with awful behavior received detentions, then suspensions, and then withdrew before expulsion. It left us with the most wonderful group of middle schoolers I've had to date. If I would've rated Candeo back then, it would've been an easy five stars. So even though I knew that HOS wasn't returning, I chose to come back because I couldn't believe anyone would mess with perfection.

Oh how wrong I was. The CEO had been hands-off with the first HOS, but when her replacement had no real admin experience, the CEO got far more involved. She discovered she didn't like how things had been running and made changes immediately.

No longer were students disciplined. No longer were kids being supervised on the playground. No longer were teachers getting a duty-free lunch break. No longer were teachers and parents receiving responses. It was as if we'd been abandoned. So my goal was to keep my head down, focus only on what happened in my room, and get through the year.

And then staff started quitting. On a campus with just 350 kids -- only two classes per grade -- we lost:

- the assistant to the HOS
- the front office administrator
- the testing coordinator
- a kindergarten teacher
- two first grade teachers
- a second grade teacher
- a third grade teacher
- the 8th grade Logic/ELA teacher
- the MS math teacher
- the MS science teacher
- the music teacher

And that was only in the first three months of the year. Students were transferring out faster than we could count, and there was no wait list to repopulate those spots.

I still had hope that I could tough it out, but then the CEO called me in. She told me that I was a master teacher that they couldn't afford to lose, but in the same breath told me she wouldn't let the new HOS fail and that I would be held responsible for the problems in middle school. I asked for an example of what I'd done wrong, but her answer was a twisted account of something the HOS had approved. She wouldn't listen and just kept telling me that she refused to let the new HOS fail and that I would be responsible.

That was it. I packed my things and resigned. She lied to the parents and said I'd been fired, and she filed a grievance against me with the ADE.

In short... if you love teaching, this is NOT the school for you. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
