Western School of Science and Technology

Public, Charter Grades 7-12
Summary

Western School of Science and Technology is a public charter high school in Phoenix, Arizona, serving grades 7-12 with a total enrollment of 533 students. The school's academic performance has been a concern, with consistently lower standardized test scores compared to the state average across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's proficiency rates in AASA English Language Arts for 11th grade (18%) and AASA Mathematics for 11th grade (11%) were significantly lower than the state averages of 40% and 30%, respectively.

The school's challenges extend beyond academics, with a four-year graduation rate of 78.4% for the 2023-2024 school year, which is lower than the state average. Additionally, the school's dropout rate has been increasing, reaching 5.2% in the 2023-2024 school year, higher than the state average. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with Western School of Science and Technology Inc. ranking 78th out of 301 Arizona high schools for African American students, but only 291st out of 379 for Hispanic students in 2021-2022.

Interestingly, Maryvale High School and Trevor Browne High School, both part of the Phoenix Union High School District, are located in close proximity to Western School of Science and Technology and also struggle with low academic achievement and high dropout rates. This clustering of underperforming schools in the same geographic area may indicate broader systemic challenges in the local education system.

Open Quote this isn't a school, it's a Zoo! Charter schools are destroying the quality of education in America and this is the prime example. Nobody could possibly be learning anything there except civil disobedience. They tout that they are the highest performing school in the Maryvale community. Not much to brag about considering the rest of the state schools are 80 better than they are. There is no discipline, no text books, no structure. All students have computers - to play games on. They freely use their phones to video tape teachers and post them on facebook to discredit them with their ignorant lies. The students are ill-behaved, ill-mannered, rude, have no respect for authority, and the amount of learning that goes on could be put into a fleas thimble. So glad I won't be around when these "animals" become adults. America has a very dim future with the likes of these juvenile delinquents. Close Quote
