Phoenix Union High School District includes 20 high schools, generally serving grades 9–12; Linda Abril Educational Academy serves grades 10–12. The reported school averages are 23% in ELA, 20% in math and 13% in science, compared with state results of 41%, 33% and 19%. The largest average gap is in ELA, at 18 percentage points, followed by 13 points in math and 6 in science. The most important takeaway is that a districtwide average hides sharply different results, with one school standing well apart from the rest.

Phoenix Union Bioscience High School leads by a wide margin, with 76% proficiency in ELA, 67% in math and 55% in science—35, 34 and 36 points above state results. Phoenix Coding Academy is another strong performer at 46%, 38% and 28%, also above the state in all three subjects. Among larger schools, Metro Technical High School posts 33%, 25% and 17%, below the state but stronger than many large comprehensive schools. Student-teacher ratios also do not point to a clear pattern: Coding Academy’s is 13.8, while Central High School has a 17.1 ratio and results of 12% in ELA and 11% in math; free/reduced-lunch rates are not available. Some schools’ proficiency results are suppressed, so their scores are unknown rather than zero.
