Summary:

The seven high schools in Tolleson Union High School District serve grades 9–12, and their academic results show a sharp divide across the area. In 2025–26, the six schools other than University High School were all below state proficiency rates in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics; in 2024–25, they were also below the state in science. The central finding is that University stands apart, scoring well above the state in all three subjects while the other six form a much lower-performing group.

University leads by a wide margin: its ELA and mathematics proficiency rates were 91% and 89%, compared with the next-highest results of 27% and 26% at West Point High School—leads of 64 and 63 percentage points. University’s 71% science result was 59 points above West Point’s 12%. University also beat state rates of 41% in ELA, 33% in mathematics, and 19% in science. Among the other six, West Point led in every subject; Tolleson Union High School had the lowest ELA result at 14%, while Sierra Linda High School had the lowest mathematics and science results, at 12% and 4%. Completion outcomes are stronger: the six schools with 2024–25 data had graduation rates of 86%–92%, averaging 89%, compared with 80% statewide.

SchoolDigger’s average school percentile ranking rose from 29 in 2023–24 to 32 in 2025–26, a gain of 4 points, but progress varied. Rankings increased for Copper Canyon High School (13 to 21), La Joya Community High School (18 to 23), Tolleson Union (10 to 15), and Sierra Linda (4 to 13); Westview High School declined from 22 to 19, while West Point ended at 37, where it began. School size and student-teacher ratios do not offer a simple explanation: University enrolls 416 students and has a ratio of 23.1, while Westview has the lowest ratio, 17.6, without leading the group’s proficiency results. Graduation and dropout data are unavailable for University; science results are from 2024–25, while ELA and mathematics results are from 2025–26.
