Summary:
The 15 schools in the Alhambra Elementary District include 12 elementary and three middle schools, and their results vary considerably. On average, schools reached 26% proficiency in ELA and 22% in math, below state results of 41% and 33%. The most important finding is that this districtwide picture masks a major outlier: Alhambra Traditional School leads the area by a wide margin.
Alhambra Traditional School had the highest all-grades results, with 76% proficient in ELA and 74% in math—28 and 32 percentage points above the runner-up, Global Academy of Phoenix, respectively. Traditional also exceeded state results by 35 points in ELA and 41 in math; Global was the only other school above the state in both subjects, at 48% and 42%. At the other end, Westwood Elementary School had the lowest results: 11% in ELA and 8% in math, 30 and 25 points below state results. In science, Traditional also led the reported grades, with 61% in 5th grade and 62% in 8th grade, compared with state results of 34% and 30%.
SchoolDigger rankings show mixed movement, with eight of 12 schools falling in percentile between 2023–24 and 2025–26; the average change was a decline of 2 percentile points. Traditional ranked in the 95th percentile with five stars, while Global ranked in the 61st percentile with three stars; Barcelona Elementary School and Madrid Neighborhood School were each in the 1st percentile. There are also grade-specific strengths: James W. Rice Elementary School scored 36% in 8th-grade math, 6 points above the state, despite below-state all-grades results. Ratios do not sort schools neatly by achievement: Traditional’s ratio was 21.5, while Rice had the lowest at 15.9; Valencia Newcomer School has no current AASA results, and science results are available for only some schools.
