Summary

Childersburg Middle School serves 245 students in grades 6-8 within the Talladega County district, and it has seen its statewide ranking slip from the 81st percentile a decade ago to the 39th percentile today, now holding a 2-star rating. The school serves a predominantly low-income community, with about 74% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, though that number has improved from over 86% in prior years.

One of the school's standout strengths is its work with special education students, who jumped from the 30th to the 80th percentile in statewide rankings in just one year—a remarkable turnaround. The school also consistently performs well with its African American students, ranking in the 64th-77th percentile over the past three years, which is notably higher than the school's overall average. Chronic absenteeism has also improved dramatically, dropping from 21.2% to just 8.1% in one year, now better than both the district and state averages. However, math proficiency has declined sharply across all grade levels, with 8th grade math falling to just 10.2% proficiency, trailing the state average by 16-17 points. The school shows a clear pattern of students losing ground as they advance—6th graders exceed the state average in English (61.46% vs. 56.77%), but by 8th grade, proficiency drops to 45.36%.

Compared to nearby schools, Childersburg's performance is most similar to NicholsLawson Middle School in Sylacauga, which serves a similar demographic and ranks in the 39th-55th percentile range. By contrast, Chelsea Middle School in the Shelby County district serves a wealthier population and ranks in the 91st percentile. Notably, Childersburg spends less per student ($7,094) than nearby schools like Columbiana Middle ($10,167) yet achieves comparable results, suggesting efficient use of resources despite the academic challenges in math.

Open Quote The assistant principal militarizes the students & spends his days sitting in classes not allowing teachers to take charge on their own. While taking so much energy to police the halls, he is either ignoring everything going on under his nose or is too fucking ignorant to realize it.
For him to put forth so much energy in policing the school , you’d think he would care more about how students are treating one another than being the first to pass out one way tickets (which is a rather useless punishment) to OSCAR. Maybe try praising the kids on even simple good behaviors instead of automatically setting them up to to fail. Kids will be what you make them out to be, man. Figured you knew this with all this training.
You have kids getting slapped but “not really if you didn’t see it.” You’ve got kids being bullied but “not really if you saw them talking weeks before.”
I don’t know if you need to be replaced or if you need a lesson taught to you by a dominatrix. Close Quote
