Summary

Wetumpka Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-4 in Wetumpka, Alabama, part of the Elmore County School District. With 880 students, Wetumpka Elementary has generally been ranked between 153 and 303 out of around 680-690 Alabama elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a 3-4 star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Wetumpka Elementary's student performance on standardized tests is generally below the Elmore County and Alabama state averages, especially in mathematics, the school has some notable strengths and weaknesses in its performance for different student subgroups. The school ranks highly (top 35%) for African American and Hispanic students, but struggles more with White and Special Education students, ranking in the bottom 25% for those groups. Additionally, Wetumpka Elementary has had relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 14.2% to 20.1% over the past few years, which is above the state average. With a high percentage of students, ranging from 49.71% to 68.89%, qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, the school serves a relatively high level of economically disadvantaged students.

Compared to nearby schools, Wetumpka Elementary's performance is generally stronger than the Montgomery County schools, which have much lower rankings and test scores. However, it lags behind the other Elmore County schools like Holtville Elementary and Redland Elementary, which have higher rankings and better student outcomes. Addressing the school's challenges in student achievement, attendance, and serving its economically disadvantaged population could help Wetumpka Elementary improve its overall ranking and performance within the state.

Open Quote This school is way behind on every aspect that would make it a good school. The leadership is lacking the skills needed to run a successful school and the front office staff is incompetent. The teachers that I have talked to do not have the passion for teaching. Overall, if you have another choice, do your family a favor and send your child to another school. Close Quote
