Summary

Richardson High School in Richardson, TX, is a large public high school serving 2,669 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Richardson Independent School District (Isd), located in a diverse suburban area where 44.6% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school has a solid performance history, earning a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past six years, though this is a decline from its peak 4-star rating in 2016-2019. It has shown strong recovery from a post-pandemic slump, climbing back to the 69th percentile statewide in 2025-2026 after dropping to the 56th percentile in 2022-2023.

Richardson High School stands out for its superior academic performance in core subjects like English, Biology, and U.S. History, where it consistently outperforms nearby Berkner High School and matches or exceeds Pearce High School, located just 1.41 miles away. For example, in Biology, 73.25% of Richardson students are proficient, compared to 57.53% at Berkner and 78.29% at Pearce. However, the school has a critical weakness in Algebra I, with only 12.84% of students proficient in 2025-2026—far below the state average of 54.03% and even lower than Pearce's 22.97%. This "Algebra I anomaly" suggests a systemic issue in the math department that needs attention.

The school excels for certain student groups, ranking in the 92nd percentile for White students and 80th percentile for African American students, as well as 81st percentile for Special Education students. Yet it struggles significantly with Hispanic students (42nd percentile) and English Language Learners (19th percentile), indicating a need for targeted interventions. Richardson's graduation rate is healthy at 93.1%, slightly above the district average, though its dropout rate of 2.6% has been a bit higher than the district for two years. Overall, the school offers strong academics in most areas but has clear gaps in math and for specific student populations that parents should explore further.

Open Quote We moved from Private School to the Magnet Program at Richardson. Best decision we ever made. Our eldest did fine at UA and is completing Law so no complaints but the next kid down got UT Austin for Architecture and Engineering (double Major). The school is flexible, rigorous and has a broad curriculum. We have two more in Richardson now. They are blossoming. Close Quote
