Summary

Morton Ranch Elementary is a large PK-5 campus in the Katy Independent School District (Isd), serving 969 students in a densely populated area of Katy, TX, where roughly 68% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school stands out for its remarkable stability and consistent performance, ranking in the 64th-69th percentile statewide for the last five years. While nearby schools like Ursula Stephens Elementary (83rd percentile) and Loraine T Golbow Elementary (57th percentile) show significant year-over-year swings, Morton Ranch offers a predictable and reliable educational option. The school excels at serving its economically disadvantaged students, with these students ranking in the 75th percentile statewide. This is a notable differentiator from Franz Elementary, which has a similar demographic profile but a lower overall rank. Morton Ranch also has a highly effective bilingual program, with students consistently outperforming district and state averages on Spanish versions of STAAR Reading and Math tests.

While the school shows strong and improving outcomes for many student groups, it faces challenges in science, where scores are below the Katy ISD average but on par with the state average—a common issue for high-poverty schools in the district. The school also has a notable weakness in serving its Asian student population, which ranks in the 38th percentile. Overall, Morton Ranch is a steady, reliable performer that effectively supports its diverse student body, though it has clear areas for growth to reach the next level of performance.

Open Quote This school has been awful for my 5th grader. The teachers don't care, don't communicate, have no sense of urgency when it comes to grading work. My daughter tested advanced in her last elementary school and this year I am worried she will even pass the STAR test. I've emailed, called, and had a conference and I still can't get cooperation from the staff. Horrible. It's quite obvious why they received some of the lowest TEA grades in the district. Can't wait to move so my younger kids don't have to repeat this experience. Close Quote

Open Quote Had to pull my child out of this school. Was being bullied daily, which his teachers ignored and actually blamed him for. He was getting beat up in the bathroom, had dirt thrown at him on the play ground, called racial slur names, left crying at recess by teachers who saw the other kids picking on him. Had a teacher tell him to stop making up lies on the other good kids. Had to get help with this outside katy ISD. Close Quote
