The school has a 1-star rating and sits in the 27th percentile of Texas elementary schools, with over 70% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

Despite its overall ranking, Hyman is the strongest performer among its immediate district peers, consistently outperforming nearby schools like Clint Q Smith Elementary (1st percentile), James R Bilhartz Junior Elementary (3rd percentile), and Charles Acton Leadershp Academy (13th percentile). A key differentiator is the school's strength in reading: 3rd and 4th-grade reading proficiency rates (47.62% and 51.35%) are significantly higher than the district average and close to the state average. However, math scores lag behind, with 3rd-grade math proficiency at just 28.99% compared to the state's 44.33%. This gap between reading and math performance is a notable characteristic of the school.

When comparing to nearby options, the contrast is stark. Colin Powell Elementary in the Grand Prairie Independent School District (Isd) ranks in the 88th percentile, with 4th-grade math proficiency at 66.23% versus Hyman's 43.24%. Hyman also spends a relatively high amount per student ($12,132) compared to charter schools like Life School Cedar Hill ($9,679) and Ume Preparatory Academy - Duncanville ($7,423), yet its outcomes are lower. The school's ranking has been volatile over the past decade, bouncing between the 22nd and 51st percentiles, suggesting sensitivity to changes in student cohorts or leadership.

Open Quote If you are a parent of a child with special needs I would not put your child in this school. My child was neglected and left in soiled clothes until I picked him up after school. One of the TA's at this school has a very bad attitude with the kids and I don't think she should be working with kids who have special needs. I witnessed how mean she was with one child who has autism. Talked to principal regarding several issues we had with her and what we had witnessed and he seemed to make excuses for her poor behavior. I would look into other schools before considering this school. I thankfully withdrew my son quickly. Close Quote
