Summary

Cypress Ridge High School is a large public high school in Houston, TX, serving 2,861 students in grades 9-12 as part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (Isd), with nearly 80% of students coming from low socio-economic backgrounds.

One of the school's standout features is its remarkably low student-teacher ratio of 10.9:1, which is significantly lower than nearby schools like Langham Creek High School (15.7:1) and Cy-Fair High School (around 15:1). This suggests potential for more individualized attention, yet the school's overall state ranking has declined to the 41st percentile in 2025-2026, down from the 64th percentile in 2020-2021. The school's Gifted and Talented students perform exceptionally well, ranking in the 90th percentile statewide, and White students also achieve strong results at the 76th percentile. However, other student groups struggle significantly, with Multi-racial students ranking in the 19th percentile and African American students in the 38th percentile. Algebra I proficiency is a critical weakness, with only 36.49% of students proficient, the lowest among nearby CFISD peers like Langham Creek (51.72%) and Cy-Fair (47.86%).

Despite these academic challenges, Cypress Ridge excels at keeping students on track to graduate, with a strong 93.9% graduation rate that exceeds the district average of 92.7% and a dropout rate of just 0.4%, the lowest among nearby CFISD high schools. This paradox—low test scores but high graduation rates—suggests the school is effective at student engagement. For context, nearby Harmony School Of Discovery - Houston, a charter school with a similarly high poverty rate (73.66%), achieves dramatically better results, ranking in the 92nd percentile with near-perfect Algebra I proficiency (90.91%). This comparison shows that high poverty does not have to dictate low performance and highlights areas where Cypress Ridge could improve.

Open Quote Many people would say Cy-ridge is a bad school but I don't think so I'm a student at Cy-ridge and I get nothing lower then a B- in any class. Its fine art classes are top rated in many competitions I now because I'm in orchestra. I like the teachers there why? Because they really show you that they want to help and make you understand the subject of what they are teaching you. If I was asked if I wanted to change schools to go to any other school I think I would say no I like being at Cy-ridge and everything about it well almost everything as ever school in the nation they all need a bit of change!! But this is what I think of my high school Close Quote
