Open Quote Jackson school supports grades six through eight. Our son is presently in the eighth grade and began his Jackson education in the seventh grade. The students who make up the Jackson student body are a mixed bag of varying affluency as well as religious and ethnic backgrounds.

The school not only focuses on a good academic education but also places an emphasis on the role of the arts. Students are generally respectful (from my limited experience) and seem to respect the teachers and grounds. I've never seen any signs of vandalism. That being said, the school is very nice and has an outdoor track and plenty of well kept grass. The walls inside the school are covered in murals that have been painted by students which, remarkably, look as though they were professionally commissioned.

On the academic front, I've found that my son has learned a lot of math and social studies. Writing, on the other hand, is not quite up to my expectations. There seems to be a focus on creative writing and a lack of focus on grammar. I feel that all students should have a good foundation of the parts of speech- especially if they go on to learn a second language- it's invaluable. Reading has been required since he started attending the school. One change I would like to see is that the students read books from a required reading list. If all the students read the same material, write papers on the it and share with each other, they will read a better quality of literature and learn more from it than reading old paperback.

Overall I'm very pleased with Jackson. Close Quote
