Summary

Hopewell High School is a public magnet high school located in Huntersville, North Carolina, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,774 students. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, which is ranked 119 out of 242 districts in North Carolina and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Hopewell High School's performance is mixed compared to nearby schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg district. It generally outperforms West Mecklenburg High School and Turning Point Academy, but lags behind higher-performing schools like Williams Secondary Montessori, Northwest School of the Arts, and William Amos Hough High. The increasing percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Hopewell High School suggests that the school is serving a growing population of economically disadvantaged students, which may contribute to the lower academic performance compared to more affluent nearby schools.

Hopewell High School's test scores are generally below the district and state averages across the four main End-of-Course (EOC) exams, with proficiency rates ranging from 22.6% to 73.4%, while the district and state averages range from 28.8% to 66.6%. The school's lower test scores, particularly in Math I and Biology, suggest that it may need to focus on strengthening its curriculum and instructional practices in these subject areas to better support student learning and achievement. However, Hopewell High School performs relatively well for certain student subgroups, ranking in the top 50-100 schools for Asian, African American, and English Language Learner students.

Open Quote My family moved to NC in the fall of 2012, and at that time Hopewell was ranked very high in the state. Come to find that this was due to the way in which they test, and also for their vocational programs for kids not aiming for 4-year college programs.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT from day 1!!! Over crowded mega school, where your child is a number, counselors don't return calls for days if at all, and teachers go uncorrected and undisciplined for FAILURE TO TEACH, and after repeated complaints from many students in several different class periods. Dumbfounded that any school could continue to operate like this one does. Talk about Waiting for Superman, this school is it! As one former administrative employee (who transferred to the awesome magnet school my son is now enrolled in) said, "They don't want to hear anything bad about their staff. It's the administration at that school who just doesn't want to hear it."
If you care about your children avoid this school, like the plague! Close Quote
