Summary

Green Park Elementary School is a PK-5 public school in Metairie, LA, serving 433 students within the Jefferson Parish school district, where a significant portion of families (67.67%) qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school has a 1-star rating (25th percentile) for the 2025-2026 school year, reflecting a decline from its historical 2-star performance, but it offers a standout advantage: a very low student-to-teacher ratio of 10.2:1, the lowest among nearby schools like Bridgedale Elementary School (13.7:1) and Tom Benson School (13.2:1).

A key bright spot is the school’s 5th-grade cohort, which in 2025-2026 exceeded both district and state averages in Mathematics (61% vs. 53% district, 61% state) and Social Studies (57% vs. 50% district, 55% state)—a stark contrast to 3rd-grade scores, where only 28% were proficient in Social Studies compared to 42% district-wide. This “5th Grade Effect” suggests a strong instructional team or cohort, while the “3rd Grade Slump” points to potential early elementary challenges. Additionally, Green Park excels with English Language Learners (ELL), ranking in the 79th percentile statewide for ELL performance, far above its overall ranking. However, the school struggles with its low socioeconomic status (SES) students, ranking in the 22nd percentile for this group, which likely drags down overall scores given the high poverty rate.

Chronic absenteeism has improved to 17.9% in 2024-2025, better than the district (21.5%) and state (22.5%) averages, but still higher than high-performing peers like Bridgedale Elementary (10.0%) and the nearby magnet Airline Park Academy for Advanced Studies (2.1%). The presence of Airline Park, a 5-star magnet school with low poverty, likely draws higher-performing students away from Green Park, adding context to its challenges. Overall, Green Park offers small class sizes and strong ELL support, but families should weigh the grade-level disparities and the school’s declining trajectory against its unique strengths.
