Despite the district's overall underperformance, Walker Traditional Elementary School stands out as a top performer. The school consistently outperforms the district and state averages in Milestones Assessment proficiency rates across all grade levels and subject areas, with 65.8% to 77.1% of students proficient in English Language Arts and 61.9% to 71.7% proficient in Mathematics, compared to just 18.4% to 25.5% and 18.8% to 20.8% for the district, respectively. The school's 5th-grade Science proficiency rate of 68.6% is also significantly higher than the district (20.2%) and state (43.8%) averages.

Walker Traditional Elementary School's strong performance is further highlighted by its relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14 to 15.4 students per teacher, and its increasing per-student spending, which has risen from $8,150 in 2016-2017 to $8,972 in 2018-2019. These factors suggest a focus on providing a high-quality educational environment for the school's students, even though it serves a relatively high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, ranging from 53.53% to 67.26% over the past three school years. This consistent high performance is a testament to the school's effective educational practices and the dedication of its staff.

Open Quote Excellent traditional education. Well behaved children reflect the clearly stated and consistently enforced rules. When one walks inside the school, it’s quiet! Children in the classrooms are learning. Children in hallways are walking calmly towards their destination. This atmosphere promotes learning, teachers aren’t wasting instruction time disciplining students. This school requires parental support. The academics are rigorous, standards are high and students are expected to complete all assignments including four days a week of homework. CT Walker produces responsible, respectful, and EDUCATED students. Close Quote
