Summary

Laurel Elementary School is a public elementary school in Fort Collins, Colorado, serving 431 students in grades PK-5. It is part of the Poudre School District R-1, which is ranked 14 out of 115 school districts in the state.

Despite being part of a highly-ranked district, Laurel Elementary School has consistently underperformed compared to its peers. The school has ranked in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools, with a low 1 to 3-star rating from SchoolDigger. Its student performance on CMAS tests is significantly lower than the district and state averages, with only 32.3% of Laurel students proficient or better in CMAS Math, compared to 52.2% for the district and 35.9% for the state. Laurel also has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 27.7% to 37.5% in recent years, which is much higher than the district and state averages.

When comparing Laurel Elementary to nearby schools within the Poudre School District, such as Tavelli Elementary, O'Dea Elementary, and Shepardson Elementary, Laurel consistently underperforms in terms of student academic achievement and statewide rankings. The combination of high chronic absenteeism, a large proportion of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and lower overall student performance suggests that Laurel Elementary may face unique challenges that require targeted interventions and support to improve the quality of education for its students.

Open Quote We love Laurel Elementary! Our children are being taught and nurtured in a diverse school that focuses on the arts and technology. Laurel's strings program is top-notch and students can begin playing the violin as early as kindergarten. When we needed a different house, we made sure to find a home in the neighborhood so that our children could continue at Laurel. The teachers really care, and administration is responsive to our needs. Close Quote
