Summary

Correia Middle is a well-regarded public school serving about 600 students in grades 7 and 8 in San Diego's Point Loma area, consistently earning high marks for its academic performance within the San Diego Unified district.

The school stands out for its strong and steady academic results, outperforming both district and state averages in English, Math, and Science. A key strength is its exceptional support for specific student groups; for example, its special education and military-connected students rank in the state's 87th-88th percentiles, demonstrating highly effective targeted programs. While the school serves a more economically diverse population than some neighbors, it achieves these outcomes with very efficient use of resources, spending less per student than several nearby schools like Montgomery Middle and Roosevelt International Middle while ranking significantly higher.

When compared to other schools in the area, Correia is a top performer, though it trails the very highest-ranked schools like Muirlands Middle and Pacific Beach Middle. An area for continued focus is student attendance, as chronic absenteeism, though improved, remains higher than at those top-tier schools. Overall, Correia Middle represents a model of consistent and equitable education, effectively supporting a diverse student body to achieve strong academic success.

Open Quote Horrible school!
If your child struggles with any academic subject, do not send them here as they will fall further behind. Students are given A's and B's on assignments when the completed work content is a 2nd or 3rd grade level. In math, all students are given an A if they complete their homework on time, even though all answers are wrong. Math teacher considers the A to represent credit for completing homework. Good luck getting any support from teachers, as their attitudes are "I have 170 students". Recently, my son's friend left at the beginning of January to go to a different school because his parents also share my same concerns of poor education offered at this school. Close Quote
