Summary

H. Allen Hight Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 760 students in the Natomas Unified district of Sacramento, consistently ranking among the lowest-performing elementary schools in California.

Academically, the school faces significant challenges, with student proficiency in English, math, and science far below both district and state averages. A major concern is chronic student absenteeism, which at 33.5% is nearly double the district average and creates a substantial barrier to learning. The school operates with fewer resources per student and a higher student-to-teacher ratio compared to several nearby schools, such as Heredia-Arriaga and Heron.

Interestingly, H. Allen Hight is located very close to some of the area's highest-performing schools, including Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep and Northlake Tk-8, suggesting its struggles are not solely community-based. Despite overall low performance, the school has shown relative success with its English Language Learner programs. The data indicates that targeted improvements in attendance and a closer look at the instructional strategies that work for some student groups could be pathways to better outcomes.

Open Quote Your children are NOT safe at this school. There is so much violence at recess and there aren't enough staff to watch the children. I have brought this issue up to the principal and vice principal and they tell me that the children are being watched. I have spent many days at recess with my child and that is not the case. Most of the yard duties are playing games on their phones or not even in there area they are supposed to be. There is a male third grade teacher that likes to flirt with and make inappropriate comments to school staff and parents in front of his students. The staff here are completely unprofessional and careless. We have pulled my daughter from this school and she will be attending third grade elsewhere. Close Quote
