Summary

Sonoma Ranch Elementary School is a public elementary school in Gilbert, Arizona, serving 496 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Gilbert Unified District. The school has consistently ranked in the top 35% of Arizona elementary schools over the past 10 years, with strong academic performance, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Sonoma Ranch's academic success is reflected in its projected 6th-grade proficiency rates for the 2024-2025 school year, which are expected to outperform the state and district averages in both ELA (74% proficient vs. 41% and 64%) and Mathematics (68% proficient vs. 29% and 52%). The school also performs well for its White and Low Socioeconomic Status student subgroups, ranking in the top 25% and top 10% of Arizona elementary schools, respectively. However, the school's performance for its Special Education and English Language Learner subgroups is less strong, indicating a need to focus on improving educational outcomes for these students.

Sonoma Ranch's academic success may be attributed to its relatively high per-student spending of $9,630 and low student-teacher ratio of 12.6, both of which are above the state and district averages. When compared to other nearby elementary schools in the Gilbert Unified District, Sonoma Ranch generally performs on par or slightly better in terms of academic achievement and state rankings, though some schools, such as Greenfield Elementary and Patterson Elementary, outperform Sonoma Ranch in certain grade-level assessments and overall state rankings.

Open Quote We can't say enough about how wonderful Sonoma Ranch Elementary is! The principal is engaged and communicates regularly. Both of our kids have had incredible teachers every year. Each teacher has created a kind and inclusive learning environment where our kids have thrived both academically and socially. We have been extremely pleased with the academics in both the regular ed and gifted classrooms, and all of our kids' teachers have shown high interest in their success and progress. The specials teachers (art, music, strings, PE, library, social/emotional learning) and programming is also outstanding! Every year we are impressed by the art show, music/strings/band concerts, fun run, literacy night, etc. There are many clubs after school run by the teachers: our kids have enjoyed participating in choir, disc golf, podcast, running club, NEHS, and StuCo. The PTSO events (back to school pool party, carnival, outdoor movie nights, etc) are always a blast, and the principal and teachers often attend despite it being outside of working hours. We are so grateful that our kids get to grow up at SRE! Close Quote

Open Quote Both my children have attended preschool-6th grade at Sonoma Ranch. We love this school. The teachers are wonderful and truly care about the students. This school is wonderful for many reasons, but I appreciated the amount of support that is available to those who need it. My children grew so much and have been able to succeed. Close Quote

Open Quote I've taught for inner-city, the Department of Defense Overseas Schools, Public Charter, and regular public schools, and by far Sonoma Ranch beats them all in striving to engage, educate, inspire, and love every child! It's a great place to be. Close Quote
