Slade Elementary

Summary:

Slade Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Laramie, Wyoming, serving 355 students in grades PK-5. As part of the Albany County School District #1, Slade consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Slade Elementary's academic performance is exceptional, with students consistently outperforming state and district averages in proficiency rates for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The school's diverse student population, including Hispanic, White, and English Language Learner subgroups, all rank among the top in Wyoming, indicating strong academic achievement across different demographics. Slade's investment in educational resources, with a higher per-student spending and lower student-to-teacher ratio compared to the state and district, may contribute to its academic success.

When compared to nearby schools, Slade Elementary's performance stands out. For example, Harmony Elementary, a small rural school in the same district, has significantly lower test scores and a higher percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients. Meanwhile, Snowy Range Academy, a public charter school, also performs well academically but has a different student demographic profile and resource allocation compared to Slade Elementary.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My rating is based on how their preschool wait list is handled. Their preschool is funded with grant money from the state. With money coming from the taxpayer, you would think that priority would go to those with low income and on a first come, first serve basis. This is not the case - at least not completely.

The teacher of the preschool program does make sure that she fulfills the requirements for lower income families to maintain her grant status, but beyond that, she will provide her close personal friends with the remaining spots by giving them insider information regarding deadlines and availability of paperwork and registration.

It's not right, and it provides some specially selected families with primary status - all on the taxpayers dime. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
